Ijab and Qabul

The clear offer and acceptance through which the marriage is contracted.

Short answer

Ijab and qabul are the clear offer and acceptance of marriage. In a VidNikah ceremony the imam guides the spoken exchange and records that it took place in front of the witnesses.

The spoken exchange matters

Digital confirmations can support the audit record, but the Nikah is not created by clicking an on-screen button. The ceremony must include a clear marriage offer and acceptance understood by those involved.

One ceremony, one clear moment

Remote ceremonies need particular care that everyone can hear the relevant exchange in the same live session. If the connection breaks at the critical moment, the imam can stop and repeat the required exchange clearly.

Where recognised scholarly disagreement or the facts of an individual case can change the ruling, qualified scholar review is still needed.
