VidNikah guidance

How long should we talk before deciding whether to marry?

There is no magic number of weeks. The better question is whether you have enough useful information to decide.

In short

Talk long enough to cover the important areas and verify what matters, but not so long that the process becomes an open-ended relationship. Some couples gain clarity quickly. Others need more meetings because of distance, previous marriages, children or complex family issues. Set a direction and review point rather than drifting indefinitely.

What Islam gives us here

Islam permits taking reasonable means to assess a spouse while maintaining boundaries before Nikah.

Qur'an 17:32 warns against the pathways that lead toward prohibited intimacy.

Count information, not days

Have you discussed deen, money, children, housing, work, family, conflict and major health or life issues? If not, three months of chatting may still be shallow.

Longer does not always mean safer

People can date for years and still hide serious parts of themselves. Verification and difficult questions matter more than simply spending time.

Watch for indefinite delays

If one person always needs another month but avoids family involvement or decision-making, the delay itself becomes useful information.

What you can do now

  1. List the important topics still unanswered.
  2. Set a date to review whether the match is moving forward.
  3. Keep communication purposeful.
  4. Do not let fear of deciding create a relationship with no clear end point.

Questions people usually ask next

Is three months too long?

Not automatically. The quality, boundaries and purpose of the communication matter more than one universal timeline.

Can we decide after only a few meetings?

Some couples can, if they have enough reliable information and the process is not rushed.
